Music

Outside of practicing medicine, Edward Fohrman is a skilled musician and multi-instrumentalist who writes and produces original music in addition to performing live with various bands.

From a young age, Edward found that he had a unique ear for music. At 10 years old, he began taking piano lessons, but stopped around age 14 when he realized he could pick up most songs “by ear” and learn how to play them just by listening. While piano is his primary instrument, he is self-taught on the guitar, bass and drums. He affectionately uses the name ‘4man Productions’ for personal projects in his home-based studio equipped with a variety of incredible gear.

A memorable event in Edward’s life that is the time he met guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. While working one night in the ER, Eddie Van Halen came in as a patient and the two decided to meet later at Edward’s apartment for a jam session where Van Halen brought the first model “Wolfgang” electric guitar as a gift and the two musicians shared an unforgettable evening.

For Edward, a world without music would be unimaginable. “Music is culturally universal; it’s how we communicate with one another across language and time. Musical taste is also entirely subjective, meaning different things to different people and moving them in different ways. Music is a way to express yourself, it can be a solitary event or an unbelievable collaboration and connection to others.”

Edward’s love of music also ties into his professional career. “I came home one day and told my parents I wanted to either be a doctor or a musician.” They had the expected response. “As a musician working in the healthcare industry, he understands how much power music can have when it comes to the healing process. Studies have shown the calming effects that music has on patients in the operating room as well as helping the entire team stay focused and cohesive.
